10 most played albums of 2017

Rok 2017 hodnotím ako hudobne veľmi bohatý a pestrý. Keď som písala tento článok za uplynulé roky 2016, 2015 a 2014 mala som niekedy pocit, že tých desať albumov ani nenazbieram. Situácia sa zmenila a neviem, či sa môj obzor tak veľmi rozšíril ale celý zoznam som musela niekoľkokrát upravovať, kým som bola spokojná s konečným výsledkom. Pripomínam ešte, že poradie až tak neindikuje obľúbenosť týchto nahrávok. Myslím, že v konečnom dôsledku sú na tom celkom vyrovnane.

Musically, I see 2017 as a very rich and diverse year. When I was writing this post for the previous year 2016, 2015 and 2014 I sometimes struggled with the feeling that I wouldn’t be able to find as much as 10 good full length albums. The situation has changed and I can’t tell now if my taste in music has broaden up so much since then because I ended up editing this list many times until I was happy with the result. Please note that the order of the albums doesn’t indicate their popularity. In general, I view the position of all records as more or less balanced. 

Goodbye 2017

Rok končiaci s (pre väčšinu ľudí šťastnou) sedmičkou je za nami. Krátke ohliadnutie sa späť nikdy nie je na škodu, a tak sa rada pridám k zástupu blogerov a blogeriek, čo sumarizujú uplynulých dvanásť mesiacov. Osobne bol môj rok 2017 vysoko kontrastný a plný zmien. Pracovne aj voľno-časovo vypätý až do posledného decembrového týždňa, vďaka čomu mám dnes množstvo skvelých zážitkov, no o to náročnejšie bolo pre mňa na chvíľku sa zastaviť.

The year ending with number (for many people a lucky one) seven is over. A short look back is never a bad idea so I am therefore joining the club of all the bloggers who have been summarizing the past twelve months. Personally my 2017 was full of contrasts and changes. Work wise and leisure wise pretty intensive all the way up to the last week of December. This produced a lot of great experiences but sometimes made it more difficult for me to slow down.

Október je pravdepodobne môj najobľúbenejší mesiac v roku. Večery sa predlžujú a slnečné dni sú zrazu vzácnosťou. Okrem toho, že vzduch vonia dažďom a  rozkladajúcimi sa listami, teplota klesne na ideálnu hodnotu a všetko je tak krásne farebné! K obľúbenosti tohto mesiaca tiež nemálo pridáva aj skutočnosť, že sa oslavuje Halloween. Na jeden deň v roku je (čím ďalej tým viac aj v našich zemepisných šírkach) akceptovateľné chodiť po vonku prezlečený za  strašidelné, či priam mŕtvolne vyzerajúce mátohy.

October is probably my favourite month of the year. The nights are getting longer and the sunny days are more precious. Besides that the air smells of rain and rotting leaves, the temperature gets down to the ideal level and everything is so much more colourful! A strong contributing factor to October’s popularity is also the fact that we celebrate Halloween. For a single day we are allowed to (and it’s being accepted more and more in our country as well) walk the streets dressed up like creepy corpse-looking characters.

Nalejme si čistého vína. Milujem metal a často sa v súvislosti s touto skutočnosťou stretávam s rôznymi reakciami. Stále si nahováram, že je to možno iba tým, že to ľudia nechápu, nevedia nič o tejto komunite a úprimne asi ani nemajú veľmi záujem pochopiť jej hudbu. Myslím, že všetci, ktorí sú na tom podobne (a nebodaj sú ešte aj ženského pohlavia) dostávajú od svojho okolia občas celkom zabrať. Priznajme si, že predsudky nás nikam neposúvajú, a preto by som chcela v tomto článku vyjasniť pre ignorantov  zopár vecí, ktoré sa mi zvyčajne veľmi nechce rozoberať.  Ak patríš do metalovej rodiny, poď si teda so mnou spočítať, či si v živote dostal niekedy aspoň jednu z týchto piatich otázok.

Let’s be honest. I absolutely love metal music and as a result I often experience all kinds of reactions to this fact. Sometimes I’m trying to tell myself that maybe it’s because these people just don’t get what it’s all about and have no information on the community involved – maybe even don’t bother to understand the music as such. I would say that everyone who is in the same situation as me (being a female even) will be familiar with the feeling of somebody else giving you a hard time. Let’s just admit that prejudices won’t get us anywhere and that’s why I intend to clear some things up for the ignorant ones. One Day in Budapest

Zámienkou na výlet do Budapešti môže byť takmer čokoľvek. Zatiaľ čo mnohé rodinky s deťmi túžia po prehliadke Tropicaria – najväčšieho morského akvária v Strednej Európe, tí prácou zlomení sa chcú zrelaxovať v Széchenyiho liečebných termálnych kúpeľoch. Našou výhovorkou bolo stretnutie s priateľmi, ktorí sa sem na pozvanie toho domáceho pozliezali z celej Európy. Nachodení, sme si jeden deň vyhradili na prechádzku po meste s cieľom vidieť to najpodstatnejšie z jeho krásy. 

Nowadays you can use almost anything as a pretext for visiting Budapest. Whereas most of the families with kids desire to see the Tropicarium - Central Europe's largest aquarium, those who are exhausted from work will long for a relaxing day at the Széchenyi Thermal Baths. Our excuse was to meet some friends who at the invitation of the local one arrived from all Europe. Walking our legs off, we reserved one day for some sightseeing through the city in order to see the most significant of its beauty. 

The Handmaid's Tale

Písanie recenzie na dystopický román Príbeh služobníčky od fantastickej Margaret Atwoodovej mi zabralo neskutočne veľa času. Možno to bolo aj tým, že som v rovnakom čase sledovala aj filmové spracovanie a tak bol môj konečný zážitok o to intenzívnejší. Veď čo, niektoré témy vo Vás musia najskôr dozrieť než sa pustíte do ich hlbšej analýzy. Ak ste o tomto diele ešte nepočuli, máte čo doháňať a ja Vám s tým rada pomôžem.

Finishing the review of the dystopian novel The Handmaid‘s Tale written by the fantastic Margaret Atwood took me a long time. Maybe it was because I was simultaneously watching the new Hulu series so my final experience was even more intense. Never mind. Perhaps some stories require more time from us in order to absorb them completely and this was certainly the case as I was planning to analyze the book anyway. In case you aren’t familiar with the title, there’s a lot that you might be missing and I hope I can be useful at least a bit in this matter. 

5 things I'd do differently in college

Väčšina ľudí v okruhu mojich priateľov už má výšku nejaký ten čas za sebou. Každý rok sa však touto cestou vydávajú tisícky ďalších šikovných mladých ľudí, ktorých kroky sú neisté a myseľ otvorená. Zamyslela som sa preto nad tým, ako som svoj študentský čas trávila ja a čo by som dnes možno urobila inak. Tým, ktorí v septembri začínajú novú kapitolu vo svojom živote tak prajem veľa šťastia a pre tých, čo už vysokú absolvovali mám krátku otázku. Keby ste mohli dať spätne samému sebe nejakú radu, aká by to bola?

Most of the people around me have already completed their degrees. Nevertheless, every year there are thousands of smart and young people embarking on their University journey with mind opened but steps that are insecure. After giving it some thought I came up with a post about a few things I would do differently in college. Let me wish good luck to those who are starting a new chapter of their lives this September!
